About
Anne-Marie Eze was born and raised in London but also calls Italy home having lived there periodically since 1998. She read classics (BA Hons) and library and information studies (MA), with a specialism in manuscript studies and historical bibliography, at University College London. A year of her first degree was spent at the university of Bologna, Italy.
Anne-Marie trained as a librarian at Trinity College Library in Cambridge and worked as an assistant curator at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in the Photographs collection and later on the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries Project.
In 2010 she completed an Arts and Humanities Research Council collaborative doctorate in history of art at the Courtauld Institute of Art and the department of Western Manuscripts of the British Library. The topic of her doctoral thesis was the infamous Venetian priest-turned-art dealer Abbé Luigi Celotti (1759-1843). Anne-Marie also catalogued the British Library's collection of Italian illuminated miniatures for the online Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts.
Anne-Marie is currently the first Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, where she is cataloguing the rare books collection and researching Isabella Gardner as book collector. To date, results of her work on the relatively unknown area of the Gardner Museum's collection have included: Under the Covers@ After Hours (July-December 2010), a series of monthly talks on temporary displays of illuminated manuscripts, early printed books and fine bindings, and the exhibition 'Illuminating the Serenissima: Books of the Republic of Venice' (3 May - 19 June 2011). Eze's article 'Italian Illuminated Manuscripts at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum' will be published in the 2012 edition of the Rivista di Storia della Miniatura.
